Biography
Freshman Season (2014-15)
Steve Edwards was scheduled to take a red-shirt as a true freshman, but several injuries to upperclassmen forced him into the starting line-up. Edwards wrapped-up his first year with a 3-14 overall record and a 2-8 mark in dual meets. Two of his three wins were by fall. Edwards also wrestled at both the PSAC Championships and the Super Region I Tournament, but did not place.
Sophomore Season (2015-16)
Took a Red-Shirt
Red-Shirt Sophomore Season (2016-17)
Edwards moved up a weight class to 165 lbs. and was the starter while defending National Champion Tyler Reinhart was out of the line-up. Edwards was 4-7 overall and 3-5 in dual meets.
Junior Season (2017-18)
Edwards moved up another weight class to 174 lbs. and posted a 14-6 overall record and an 8-3 mark in dual meets. Edwards was the runner-up at the Super Region I Tournament and earned his first spot in the National Tournament. His five wins by fall were tied for second most on the team.
High School
Four-year letterman...senior season record of 46-4… career record of 142-37...three-time PIAA State Qualifier… 2014 PIAA State Champion at 152 lbs....also placed sixth at the PA State Tournament in 2013...three-time sectional champion, 2014 WPIAL champion, and three-time regional place-winner, including champion in 2014… recipient of United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.
Personal
Majoring in Criminology...one-year letterman in track and field...earned the Burrell High School Excellence in Art Award...son of Andy and Lisa Edwards of Lower Burrell, Pa.
